Michael Herscovici is a member of the Knowledge Management department at the IBM Research Lab in Haifa, Israel. His research interests include Internet and mobile applications as well as search engine technology. Mr. Herscovici received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel's Institute of Technology in Haifa, in 1998. He joined IBM in 1997 and has since participated in software projects, including Mapuccino, Juru (a pure Java search engine), Pirate (a Palm search engine), and Pocket LDS (a Palm companion to Lotus Discovery Server).
Michal Jacovi is a research staff member at the IBM Research Lab in Haifa, Israel, and is a member of the Knowledge Management department. Her research interests include human-computer interaction, information visualization, and knowledge management. Ms. Jacovi received her M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion in Haifa, Israel, in 1993. She joined IBM in 1993 and has worked on several projects involving visualization and awareness on the Web. Ms. Jacovi is currently involved in a number of projects aimed at managing tacit knowledge: The ReachOut Project builds an instant messaging platform for seeking and offering professional advice. Its main theme is "Do not search for information alone; make sure the right people know what you look for, and let them provide you with more relevant answers, faster." Other projects have to do with eMeetings and eLearning.
Yoelle S. Maarek is a research staff member at the IBM Research Lab in Haifa, Israel, where she heads the Knowledge Management Department. Her research interests include information retrieval, Internet applications, and software reuse. She graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees in Paris, France, and received her DEA (graduate degree) in Computer Science from Paris VI University in 1985. Dr. Maarek received a Ph.D. from the Technion in Haifa, Israel,in January 1989. Before joining the Haifa Lab, she was a research staff member at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center for about five years. She serves on the program committees of several international conferences and is a member of the Review Board of the WebNet Journal. Dr. Maarek has published over 35 papers in professional journals and conferences, and she is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
Vladimir Soroka is a research staff member at the IBM Haifa Research Lab in Haifa, Israel, and is a member of the Knowledge Management department. His research interests include Internet applications, Web collaboration and awareness, and Internet as mass medium. Mr. Soroka received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel's Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel, in 1996, and he is now studying for his Masters degree in the Department of Communication in Haifa University. Before joining IBM, Mr. Soroka worked on Internet-based fax servers. He joined IBM in 1998 and has since worked on various applications, such as Mappuccino, Livemaps, Java Crawler, and others.
Menachem Shtalhaim is a research staff member at the IBM Haifa Research Lab in Haifa, Israel, and is a member of the Knowledge Management department. His research interests include Internet applications, communication protocols, and heuristic algorithms. Mr. Shtalhaim joined IBM in 1993 and worked on several projects involving morphological analysis tools, a Network Design and analysis tool (IBM product NetDA/2), and the AS400 logical file system layer. In the past, Mr. Shtalhaim has worked on medical diagnostic systems. He is the author of the dedicated robot component of Mapuccino.
Sigalit Ur is a research staff member at the IBM Haifa Research Lab in Haifa, Israel, and is a member of the Knowledge Management department. She received a Master of Science degree in Intelligent Systems from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. Before joining IBM, Ms. Ur was involved in projects in a wide variety of fields, including data processing, databases, cognitive science, multi-agent planning, and image processing; some of these projects have been published in journals and conferences.
