IBM Assured Execution Environment (AxE)

Operating systems: Operating system: Windows® XP SP2; Windows Server 2003 SP1. (Limited testing has been performed on Server 2003.)

Hardware: NTFS-formatted disks only. Please do not install on FAT32-formatted disks.

1. Please ensure that all the fixed hard drives on your system are formatted NTFS.
2. Ensure that your computer has a C:\ drive (a C:\ drive is required by the included installation script).
3. Ensure that you know your computer""s local administrator user name and password (in case you need to boot into Safe Mode in order to disable IBM Assured Execution Environment).
4. Please run an up-to-date virus scanner to ensure that no known malware is already present on the system.
5. Clear the Web browser""s cached files to ensure that no undesired ActiveX controls get automatically approved by IBM Assured Execution Environment""s installer.
6. Unzip the package to any location (for example, c:\axe_install_files).
7. Open a command prompt and go to that directory (for example, cd c:\axe_install_files).
8. Run install.bat (this will put all necessary files under c:\axe).

The installation process will configure IBM® Assured Execution Environment and will approve all the existing files on your file system (the latter step will take some time). Upon completion of installation, you will be prompted to reboot your machine.

After the reboot, IBM Assured Execution Environment will be active, and its icon will appear in your system tray. Right-clicking on this icon will bring up a context menu of options including attempted intrusion blocked by IBM Assured Execution Environment, as well as facilities for installing additional "approved" programs.
