1. I cannot start a P2G Station (for administrators at server side). What is the problem?

There are many possible causes:
  1. Invalid service map
  2. When the service map contains one or more errors such as invalid syntax and range overlaps, you will see error messages regarding them, for example, as follows:

      my.map: [ 4:34] invalid TOKEN "including"
where the numbers in square brackets indicate the line and column numbers.

See Appendix-Map.rtf for more detail of service maps.

  3. Invalid settings for Windows Media Encoder (WME)
  4. When you give the wrong address and/or port for specifying the host of Windows Media Encoder, P2G Station will stop. Please make sure that the WME is already running in the host and that correct address and port are given.

  5. Invalid service port
  6. When the port number given to P2G Station is already used by the other processes, you will get an error message showing the conflicts in the console or log file. Please use the -A option to avoid duplicates of port number, especially when making the second channel in a single host.

  7. License expired
  8. After 90-day trials, you will see a notification of license expiration. Please get and install a new version after uninstalling the old verison. Do not overwrite the old version with the new one.

  9. Other codes

0: OK ...
1: QUIT ... stopped by receiving WM_QUIT message
2: TERM ... terminated
3: INTR ... stopped by INTR (ctrl-C)
100: Input ... invalid input from source server
150-153: Plugin
200: Usage ... invalid options
201: Port ... invalid port number for service
202: Map ... invalid map file, syntax errors, range overlapps
203: FEC ... invalid FEC parameters
255: License ... license expired

According to security settings, some hosts do not allow you to download and install any ActiveX controls. In this case, you will fail to install a P2G Receiver software because it is implemented as an ActiveX control. Please check your Internet Explorer about the settings for handling ActiveX controls.

When you successfully have a receiver's status panel shown in the HTML page, see the "Status" line in it, and consult the item following:

  1. "License expired --- please get a new version."
  2. The license has been expired for the installed P2G Receiver. You need to get a new version of P2G Receiver after uninstalling the old one.

  3. "Unsupported OS --- Windows 2000 or Windows XP is required."
  4. You may have started on an OS that is not Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

  5. "Runtime check error --- insufficient resources ?"
  6. Your PC does not comply with the requirements for experiencing the P2G service. Determine whether your PC satisfies the minimum clock and minimum available memory.

  7. "Connection failed [err=1] ..."
  8. Invalid P2G Station is specified in the HTML file or it is not running yet. Consult administrator of the P2G Station.

  9. "Server busy [err=3] ..."
  10. P2G Station is temporarily busy. Try again later.

  11. "No response (due to firewall ?) [err=4] ..."
  12. Reconnection from the server side may have failed due to the firewall settings at the client side. The firewall may reject any connection request from the outside. Please make sure that your PC can accept any connection at the port number 50020 (TCP/UDP), which is the default port required for P2G Receiver.

Two batch files (fw-open.bat and fw-close.bat) are provided for changing the firewall settings --- to open and close the appropriate ports.

If you are behind a Network Address Translation (NAT) box, then you furthur need new port forward rules (or port mapping) in the NAT box. If the NAT box is UPnP-enabled, then the P2G Receiver will automatically try to set new rules at a start-up phase and clear them at a clean-up phase. If it doesn't work properly, you may have to set and clear them by hand. Please refer to the reference manual of NAT box.

  13. "No wireless adapter accepted [err=5] ..."

Wireless adapters will be rejected in joining P2G Network. Please connect to a wire network (Ethernet) and disable your wireless adapter if the error still appears.

  14. "Version mismatch [err=11] ..."
  15. The version of the installed P2G Receiver does not match thr one of the P2G Station. Please uninstall the P2G Receiver software according to the uninstallation instructions shown in the HTML page you have opened, then reopen the page again to install the current version.

  16. "Reached maximum clients [err=12] ..."
  17. The number of receivers has reached to a maximum capacity at the server side. Please try again later.

  18. "Outside of srevice area [err=14] ..."
  19. Your area is not covered by the service. Contact the administrator of the P2G Station you access.

  20. "Startup failed [err=%d]"
  21. Internal error. Please contact representatives of P2G development team.

  22. "[err=%d (xxxx)]"
  23. Internal error. Please contact representatives of P2G development team.

3. No video and audio are shown in Windows Media Player. Why not?

  • When Windows Media Player is already running before you join the service, it will show no video and audio but an error message panel telling that the server is not responding. Stop and close the running WMP first, then join again.
  • If Windows Media Player disppears as soon as it pops up, then please determine whether you have an appropriate CODEC installed in it. This can happen, for example, when stream coded in Windows Media 9 format is delivered to Windows Media Player Version 8 with no CODEC installed for Version 9. Please check Microsoft sites to get the latest CODEC, if necessary.
  • If Windows Media Encoder has paused, then no stream will be delivered while keeping the valid connection to P2G Server, which means the P2G Station does not stop but is still working. Please make sure that you have started encoding in Windows Media Encoder's GUI panel.
