What is Web Associations for Downloaded Resources?
This utility allows the user to get back to the source URI (uniform resource identifier) of a downloaded resource by using the downloaded resource that exists on the workstation.
Web Associations for Downloaded Resources will help the user to get back to the neighborhood of the resources intranet or the Internet. For example, a PDF file is downloaded from http://www.ibm.com under the technology forum "XML," written by "AAA." An example neighborhood of that PDF file could be "All documents/files from the technology forum XML that are hosted at http://www.ibm.com."
Besides serving its contents, this utility adds value to the downloaded resource by taking the user to the neighorbood of that resource. Here the resource will help the user navigate to the network where it is originally hosted, thereby reducing the necessity for bookmarks.
How does it work? Web Associations for Downloaded Resources includes a custom Internet Explorer plug-in that tracks and stores the resource's source URI and download URI. The source URI is the URI that displays the Internet or intranet page with the link to the download.
Metadata extracted from the resources that are downloaded using the browser are stored in a table. The utility allows the user to modify the metadata as needed. The modified and original metadata is fed into the search APIs that get the user back to the resources' neighbors on the network.
